Jamal Musiala has become a focal point of concern at Bayern Munich after collapsing twice on the pitch in just three days. The latest incident occurred in the final preseason friendly against Heidenheim, when the 23-year-old star came on in the second half and suddenly lay down without any contact with an opponent.

According to BILD, Musiala was brought on in the 61st minute and only about four minutes later needed medical attention. Players from both teams quickly formed a protective circle. After a few minutes, the German international was able to get up and leave the pitch with the help of doctors.

This was the second worrying incident to occur in a very short period. In the match against RB Leipzig last weekend, Musiala also collapsed about 15 minutes after coming on. BILD reported at the time that he was dizzy and had circulation problems in temperatures around 33 degrees Celsius.

After the match against Heidenheim, Bayern sporting director Max Eberl said: “Jamal will speak about this soon. We are aware and still fully informed of the situation. He is in the locker room, changing and showering.”

Shortly after, Musiala directly explained on Instagram: “The most important thing first is that I am okay. I have been diagnosed with brief, temporary episodes of absence of consciousness that are well treatable, stemming from a neurological functional disorder. These episodes can lead to the situations that just happened against Leipzig and Heidenheim.”

The Bayern midfielder added: “The important thing is that there are no additional health risks. After close consultation with experts and with clearance from neurologists, I want to continue living normally and pursuing my passion for football.” He said he is receiving the best medical care and wants this issue to remain within the circle of family, the club, and the medical team.

Dr. Raj Chohan, founder of the Premier League Panel, believes that it is possible these are focal seizures impairing consciousness due to temporary disruption of electrical activity in the temporal lobe. He wrote: “They can be controlled with lamotrigine, but the dose must be gradually increased to the optimal level, so the patient may not have full symptom control until that process is complete.”

For Bayern, the attention now will focus on Musiala's health condition and how the medical staff manage his workload as the new season approaches.
