Sergio Busquets has made a formal return to Barcelona with a new position, being named the assistant manager of Barca Atletic, collaborating with head coach Juliano Belletti. This is the first step in the legendary midfielder's journey into coaching.

Busquets returns to his old home after Barcelona announced that the former midfielder has joined the coaching staff of Barca Atletic. With his top-level playing experience and deep understanding of the club's football philosophy, he is expected to provide strong support to Belletti in developing young players.

Busquets retired in January 2026 after ending his professional career at Inter Miami. Instead of leaving football behind, the former Barcelona captain quickly started a new chapter, this time from the coaching bench.

This is also a meaningful return for Busquets. He grew up in the La Masia academy, was promoted to Barcelona's first team in 2008, and played for the Catalan club for 15 seasons. In 722 appearances, Busquets won 32 titles, notably 3 Champions League and 9 La Liga championships.

Busquets's ability to read the game, control space, and tactical thinking are considered particularly suitable for coaching young players. Throughout his career, he was one of the midfielders who epitomized Barcelona's philosophy of possession and positional play.

Busquets is also currently completing his coaching course. The job at Barca Atletic will be the first step for him to gain experience on the sidelines, before aiming for a professional coaching career in the future.

After 15 years of dedication to Barcelona on the pitch, Busquets now returns to La Masia to pass on his knowledge and experience to the next generation. A legend returns, but this time in a role on the sidelines.
