Thailand fielded seven young players to defeat Singapore in the ASEAN Cup semifinal.

The Thai squad showcased several promising youngsters at the 2026 ASEAN Cup. Specifically, in the semifinal first leg win over Singapore, seven players aged 23 and under were in the starting lineup and delivered impressive performances.

Thailand surprised by fielding a starting lineup with seven young players in the victory over Singapore, all aged 23 or under: Seksan Ratree (23), Kakana Khamyok (22), Teerasak Poeiphimai (23), Chaiyaphon Otton (23), Yotsakorn Burapha (21), along with full-backs Oussama Thiangkham (22) and Waris Choolthong (22).

The remaining four starters were experienced figures: midfielder Sarach Yooyen (34), center-back pair Manuel Bihr (32) and Nattapong Sayriya (34), and goalkeeper Kampol Pathomakkakul (34).

Coach Anthony Hudson's decision paid off as the players involved in Thailand's first two goals against Singapore were all under 23: Seksan, Kakana, Teerasak, Yotsakorn, and Waris.

Regarding the chemistry among the young Thai players, Kakana revealed: "Everyone knows their own strengths and their teammates' strengths." Therefore, combining everyone's best qualities leads to good results.

Seksan even won the Man of the Match award, while Teerasak scored a brace, moving up to second place in the tournament's top scorer list (4 goals).

Although Kakana did not score or assist, he was the instigator, providing the "pre-assists" for the opening goal and the goal that made it 3-0.

Although Yotsakorn committed a foul that led to a penalty for Thailand, he played well in attack.

According to Thai sports writer Wisarut Sinpongporn, Chaiyaphon Otton played solidly in midfield, combining extremely well with midfielder Sarach Yooyen. This is considered a key discovery of the tournament, and in the future, Chaiyaphon may partner with Thanawat Suengchitthawon.

Sinpongporn commented: "These young players have a synchronized way of thinking about the game. They all understand that they don't need too many touches and must quickly move the ball forward. No dribbling, no wasting time with unnecessary moves, but fast passing, fast passing, and finishing with a shot."
